Societal Struggle Against Violence

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is not only a reminder to address violence against women but also an opportunity to reflect on and combat all forms of violence.

If we aim to eradicate violence against women at its roots, we must focus on eliminating violence entirely from every aspect of life. Violence is not only harmful to individuals but also damages society, nature, and future generations.

Economic Factors Fueling Violence

Economic factors play a significant role in the rise of violence.
Deepening economic crises, unemployment, income inequality, and poverty increase stress levels, fueling social tensions.
Such conditions create fertile ground for various forms of violence, particularly domestic violence.
When individuals are unable to cope with economic hardships, their despair and anger often manifest as violence directed at their surroundings or family members.

The Government’s Responsibility and Policy Shortcomings

The current administration has been ineffective in addressing the root causes of violence through robust policies.
Necessary legal frameworks to prevent violence against women have not been implemented. Moreover, the decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention demonstrated an indifferent stance toward this grave human rights violation.
Additionally, increasing poverty and social injustice have deeply affected the institution of the family.
Income disparities, inadequate social support mechanisms, and unequal access to education erode trust among individuals, fostering a process that undermines family life entirely.
The government’s responsibility is not limited to enacting legal reforms; it must also ensure economic stability, strengthen social policies, and take steps to improve the quality of life for individuals.

The Role of the State: Protection and Prevention

The state must provide robust protection to victims of violence while also working to rehabilitate perpetrators and reintegrate them into society. No one should believe they can commit violence with impunity. Legal measures must be deterrent, and penalties should be effectively enforced.
However, beyond penalties, understanding the root causes of violent behavior and intervening accordingly is equally crucial.
Recognizing how far a perpetrator might go, assessing potential risks, and implementing preventive measures in a timely manner are vital.
Early identification of violent tendencies and managing risks at their onset can prevent larger tragedies.

Key Elements in Preventing Violence: Education and Media

Efforts to combat violence must begin early in life.
At every stage of education, raising awareness about the destructive effects of violence and promoting empathy, tolerance, and problem-solving behaviors are essential.
Additionally, films, TV series, and other media content should avoid normalizing violence and instead promote peaceful resolutions.

A Nationwide Effort Against Violence in All Its Forms

Violence does not only target individuals; it extends to children, animals, nature, public spaces, and schools.
Preventing violence requires raising awareness across all segments of society and fostering a spirit of solidarity.
Providing children with loving environments, treating animals with compassion, preserving nature, and ensuring safe public spaces are keys to a life free of violence.

United Efforts for a Violence-Free Future

Ending violence is a shared responsibility of individuals, institutions, society, and the state.
Without addressing the economic and social causes of violence, achieving a genuine solution is impossible.
The government must fulfill its responsibilities to pave the way for a fair, equal, and violence-free society.
A world without violence is possible, and it is our collective duty to act now.
