I Defend the Right to Life of Animals
HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO ALLOW YOUR DOG TO BE PUT TO SLEEP?
THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS FEELING IS HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT.
I defend the right to life of street animals...
Discussions in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding the euthanasia law for street animals have been met with concern and reaction from large segments of society. Defending the right to life of street animals is both an ethical and humanitarian obligation. I am worried that if this bill is accepted, there will be an increase in violence and neglect towards street animals.
First and foremost, we must not forget that animals are living beings with feelings. They can also suffer, feel fear, and love. As humans, we have a responsibility toward these beings. Improving the living conditions of street animals is possible through measures such as spaying, vaccination, and care. In this way, the problem of street animals can be solved through humane methods.
Euthanasia is not a deep and permanent solution; rather, it is a temporary practice that covers up the problem. Campaigns for spaying and neutering street animals are more effective and humane for controlling their population. We see successful examples worldwide. For instance, in many European countries, street animals have been managed through spaying, and this practice has sustainably reduced animal populations.
Additionally, we cannot ignore the ethical dimension of euthanasia. Ending the life of a living being should only be considered by qualified individuals and in very special circumstances.
In the case of street animals, it is unacceptable for such a practice to be brought up merely due to a lack of living space or incompatibility with humans.
Every living being has an inherent right to life, and this right should not be arbitrarily taken away by us humans.
It is also important to raise awareness in society about street animals, organize educational campaigns, and make individuals sensitive toward these animals.
